Unfolding
A Love of death that grows into being
Through layers of smell, treachery
Scratched out and drilled into
The shatter of a locked door
Time wasting on the hands
Always wasting
Living on this wounded street
Running from doom’s helping hand
They give and take away
Pretending to be god
Unfolding lie of a morbid wish

Stepping Out of the El Greco
Stepping Out of the El Greco
“For Holden”
You did it, once again
Against the wishes of your masters
They have steely eyes
Those sparkle like jaded beaks
And tongues that betray
Flapping to eternity
Into a destiny of morass
Turned into silence
Like the windswept stones
Born from the exploitation
A morality and distrust
You feed them little scraps
Little turnips of time
I feel the vultures circling
Around my back
Sniffing out the sublime
Portals of damnation
Open to the fire breathing
Digging deep into the bedrock
Raise high your scavengers
Being in the world, but not of it
Yes, this also must pass
A penumbra of unknowns
Your star catcher surprise
But, none were really too surprised
It all came out as planned
By a loving god with cracked veins
Pointing across the ceiling
Slung across your shoulder
Like a boy packing dynamite
They love you despite yourself
Blank spaces between the sentences
You too, Brutus?

Scorched Seaweed
Scorched Seaweed
The green shadows forget his names
All those he used
In different lifetimes
Now a grizzled old man
With two pools of alertness
An ancient foot soldier
There is nothing outside of him
Nowhere can he turn for learning
He has held the absolute too long
Tired arms that know no forgiveness
He was a god with an impossible task
To set down lines that refused his touch
Before he entered the wilderness
The empty wasteland of nothing
How the winds howl with contempt in his mind
Especially when he lets his thoughts wander
Then he remembers
How the sound of forgiveness feels
Against the hard edge of steel
The green shadows forget his names
All those he used
In different lifetimes
Now a grizzled old man
With two pools of alertness
An ancient foot soldier
There is nothing outside of him
Nowhere can he turn for learning
He has held the absolute too long

Once Again
Once Again
Imbued with a moist clarity
The gift of an avid fan
The teacher said that there would be days like this
Those words of warning are not hollow now
How could he know the future?
The body decomposing and neighbors growing
Suspicious by the minute
Another day would bring new adventures
But I have to make it through this one first
The cops will be knocking down the door
If I don’t get rid of the body
Remembered colors of death
I have seen this before
Maybe in another life
My Karma coming back
To haunt me once again
Imbued with a moist clarity
The gift of an avid fan
The teacher said that there would be days like this
Those words of warning are not hollow now
How could he know the future?
The body decomposing and neighbors growing
Suspicious by the minute

Little gun
Little gun
Firm brisk strokes
As the black birds fly
North to unknown seasons
The curse of your smoking gun
With a skewed perspective
Slightly off kilter
The idea of departure
More real suddenly
Come prepared for music
When the fight should be on
Doing it for pearls
Deeds of a wicked hand
One foot forward
Slowly is the attack
Apt pupil

The people have burned down
The people have burned down
The function no more
Between the blades of cement blocks
A crumbling sense of permanence
Evades your mind
As you ponder the unmeaning of life
The mayor building water parks
Seeking oblivion
And the tax breaks of the wounded
While feeding on the terror
The water misses her cleaning-maid daughters
They have left on buses and trains
Seeking ghostly tongues
The sons of alarm clock mornings
Inside you is a six-pack of beer
Moving away from the fire
Eternity in the newspapers
Tonight at the fairgrounds
Late model elimination

Black Swan
Black Swan
Overbearing memories
Laid vertically across
Onslaught of thoughts
Reserved for the habitual
Magnifying effect on the masses
Putting yourself on the line
Smashed by absurdity
Emotional intimacy undercutting
Characters on the periphery
Modal monsters flirting with destiny
Nothingness permeates the whisper
Bitter regret channeling despair
Inside and all-around
Hawkish sentiments, inverted claim
Wildly disparate views
Happenstance informed by reason
You took my words and twisted
Into something beautiful
Carried away with subversion
Painful duty passionately pursued
Met with exaggerated hope
Experience that left you wanting
Desiring unpredictable change
Something to spark the imagination
Coming to terms with reality
Recognizing the material influence
Empty formality wooed by chance
Noble-hearted inspired by difficulty
Last sacrifice made for love
Careful to preserve that which is hidden
Deliberately enticing to act
A few expressive words
Woven into the fabric
Found by those looking
Felt even by the unwise
Overbearing memories
Laid vertically across

Bedraggled
Bedraggled
Barely worth the attention
Not a potent force
Everyone means the rest
Dimensions of expected scorn
Why a subject to take
Slight show with cleavage
To care is like trying
Driven by the dictates
An easier sell with luxury
Held by same principles
Inherent in a how
Will work for beer
Barely worth the attention

Jumping out of my skin
Jumping out of my skin
Standing in the void
Blue with fright
Possessed of the devil
Out over our heads
The whole bloody mess
By sweat and struggle
Getting back into the box
Part of the flux
The Old Stone Age
A head and a hand
Deep in the mud
Inflame the world
A mass of jelly
Sudden darkness
Moving amidst the sleep
In the world of chromos
An indestructible world
A blind urge to defeat
Until the bell rang
In another incarnation
A heartless son of a bitch
Light, peppery, enchanting
Trying to be free of me
Standing in the void
Blue with fright
Possessed of the devil
Out over our heads
The whole bloody mess
By sweat and struggle
Getting back into the box
Part of the flux
The Old Stone Age

Transparently Alive
Transparently Alive
Breathing in the memory
The first tangible substance
Our outer world
Building membrane
Morbid desires
The stars extinguished
Simple and obnoxious
Toward a nebula
Half to Satan
Old and patched
Sleeping with the serpent
Not dreaming
Not coiled to the automatic
Magnetic eyes
They see you
Move about naked
The abnormal span of your wings
Eager to overcome it
Disappear forever
Abandoning
Deserted and betrayed
A black hatred
Flowers thrown into the wind
So full of flame
And the spice of incredible
Breathing in the memory
The first tangible substance
Our outer world
Building membrane
Morbid desires

I spoke the lines
I spoke the lines
Spinning forward
Toward an ultimate end
Raining down perpetual
The twirling frantic
A crawling torment
The mind becomes a fine point
Every pore is spittle and foam
This transformation pounces immediately
The heart and liver
Twinkling eye
The wheel of lust
The cavernous whirl
Lulled to sleep by the century
Quenched with blood
To burry In with teeth
The doom
Nothing outside the wall
Let no one in
Not now, not ever
Gnostic decimals
For another
Somebody else’s velvety deception
Spinning forward
Toward an ultimate end
Raining down perpetual
The twirling frantic
A crawling torment
The mind becomes a fine point
Every pore is spittle and foam
This transformation pounces immediately

seduction
seduction
Sometimes,
I forget the reasons
For the whys
Between blushes of spread
The turning freedom taunts
No longer caught
In this obsession with darkness
Now there is focus to your fire
A certain voltage within
Haunted by demons from within
Picks at flamboyant soothing
The curls of warning
Deeper with heaven’s questions
My sugar
My sweet
Knee deep in bloody valentines
With trepidation
an invisible wish
To see and feel the real
Spending more fear
Not knowing anything
You want to cry
To pull out your hair
You claw at your face
Desiring to be ugly
If only you could match this feeling
This dread
This alien structure
That sucks the blood from your veins
Snaps your bones
Makes you howl
At the moon
The you could shed
This coil
This existence
Sometimes,
I forget the reasons
For the whys
Between blushes of spread
The turning freedom taunts
No longer caught

No trace of blood
No trace of blood
Drifting by the window
Nothing to fear
Bursting and mangled
Eaten by the flames
Surety is in the air
Above and triumphant
Being the last
Emerge and roar
To myself
Destruction
Tidy up the mess
The burden of self
Blind tenacity
Nourished by death
Take the devil
Take his horny hand
The same destiny
Gunned down in the street
No memory
No regret
Only bloody hands
An unthinkable void
Lost in obscurity
All a sack of bones
Drifting by the window
Nothing to fear
Bursting and mangled
Eaten by the flames
Surety is in the air
Above and triumphant

Dying Every Day
Dying Every Day
mean and dirty song of the streets
honesty is not a privilege
it is not necessary
but it is sufficient
swift accuracy summed
pushed into the portentous
an appendage of macho
a rough crude likeness
exuding the carnal vision
each narrative fits the curve
machined by the voluptuous
never lacking the luster
a nucleus of misery
winning the right to toil
to question the existence of god
to wonder about love
the trap is set
with the lonely words
you cannot escape
we resist the sculpture’s knife
our shape is our own
the right to be ugly
and unsightly
this our claim to glory
cutting away the world’s tethers
refusing to be molded
we refuse to be ignorant and blind
to turn our backs to the light of reality
